A pioneer steam engine. Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works for Northern Pacific in 1872, this 4-4-0 steam engine was the first one to ever operate in the province of Manitoba, after it had been sold in 1877 to a contractor working on construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It acquired the title Countess of Dufferin, named after the wife of the Governor General of Canada in 1877 (the Earl of Dufferein). Later the locomotive was used by the Columbia River Lumber Company and they eventually donated it to the city of Winnipeg. CP restored it at their Weston shops and it has been on exhibit in a variety of locations in Winnipeg since. Thankfully it has been preserved inside the Winnipeg Railway Museum (found inside the Union Station) since 1992.
