On a climb up Paget Peak, we were able to view the Kicking Horse Pass well below us. This is an eastbound at Partridge. The east switch of Yoho, on a section of track where the trains have to go west uphill, may be seen at right. In addition to this view, one could look down the entire pass to Field, and also view Wapta Lake.
I suspect that other people have similar photos, but they are not likely to be railfans.

  1. This would be quite a hike. Does it start at Lake Louise Lodge across from Wapta Lake? I’ve seen this angle before, but it’s brilliant with boatloads of possibilities. What a great shot!!

  2. I seem to recall that the hike started just west of that Divide Lodge, near the outlet of Wapta Lake. There was a pull-off there somewhere. For a hike in that area, it is rather dull, but the vies of the RR are quite interesting. It was not a well maintained trail, and we just walked until we thought that the views would not get any better. We never did see the watch cabin up there. Perhaps we just missed it in the chaos as the trail bifurcated too many times in the more open slope.
