Here, we have the daily train from Edmonton to Calgary on the Camrose Sub in eastern Edmonton.
This train has the usual few TOFC/COFC up front. Next there are several dozen cars of ore concentrate that came in from Hay River, I believe, that is destined to be smelted at Trail BC. After that is the regular freight - mostly in box cars (wood products?).
The Stelco steel plant is prominent in the background and truck fanatics might find the vehicle on the right interesting.

  1. Actually, there is a rumour going around that the Pine Point NWT mine where, these ore cars originated, may reopen but the track wouldn’t be put back in. Instead, the ore would be trucked to the old Junction just outside of Hay River and trans-loaded onto rail there.

  2. That might be good news. Good for jobs, but mining is a nasty dirty business.

  3. Interesting – what kind of ore?

  4. I used to know what they mined in pine point, but Google was my friend. Lead and zinc.
Years ago, the concentrate would go to Trail BC for smelting. I don’t know if they are still processing in Trail.
