Caption: I have been up and down this stretch of road (Kamloops to Jasper) several times, but considering that it parallels the CN the entire way, I have very few photos to show for it. For those that have traveled this route, you know that it is heavily forested, very lightly developed, and more likely than not, you are just trying to make miles - it is a long journey. Don't get me wrong, there are a few places where I would love to linger and catch a few trains. The area from Kamloops to Barriere seems quite intriguing, as is the 60 km west of Jasper. But in between, most is hidden or inaccessible.
Here, we caught a westbound coal train, just south of Blue River as it is about to pass under the highway. Chasing it would be very time consuming as we were headed east. The road crosses the North Thompson River almost immediately, while the tracks remain on the west bank all the way back to Avola (about 30 km).
