I can only speculate, but I believe these old warhorses were kept in Edmonton to travel up the light rails NW of Edmonton (Westlock Sub and beyond - former NAR tracks). My speculation may be incorrect if this old F-9 came in with the coupled SD-40. No SD-40's were going up the Westlock Sub at this time. There were a few SD-38's inherited from the NAR though.
