Caption: We went east of Edmonton, along the Wainwright Sub on the 19th, and found it to be relatively uninteresting (remember, I had just moved from Calgary, where there were hills and twisty track). We then tried the Edson Sub, west of Edmonton. Also remember, this is way before Google Maps. Topo maps were all that we had.
We found this spot along the shore of Chip Lake, just off the highway and waited. It got cold in the car without full sun - there were some thin high clouds much of the day.
Finally, this westbound grain and potash train came through. I lucked out and it did not have a wide nose SD-40 leading.
