On the date of this photograph I was doing contract supervision at the Cranbrook post office, so taking advantage of being there I took some after work time to visit the CP yards. Standing near the turntable pit I managed to catch CP 1611/5827/3101 in one shot. Also in the background you can see the water tank in it's original location. I'm glad the water tank was saved, & moved to the museum side of the yards. Maybe someone can tell me if it is only the wood shell at the museum, or if the original steel tank is still inside it. In the 1980's the majority of the power in Cranbrook would be CP units. Today you would probably find lots UP locomotives in the mix.

  1. Sadly today you will find no locomotives in the mix as Cranbrook yard is all but gone. It’s not even a crew change point anymore. The roundhouse is still being used as an office for engineering department.
