Caption: A photograph where the background is more important than the foreground. As GO 622 pushes 913 towards the station in Whitby, we see the latest progress on the new GO East Rail Maintenance Facility. The main maintenance building has been covered in cladding and the outdoor storage tracks have received their canopy. Although not visible in this shot, a sizeable amount of rail has been delivered to the west end of the site too. Behind the photographer, two smaller buildings are being built on the east side of Hopkins Street. The new traffic lights at Victoria and South Blair are now working and all the line painting on the road is complete, so it may only be a matter of days before South Blair reopens. As for Hopkins Street, there are no signs of its impending closure, but no signs of it staying open either.

Based on what I was told by an employee working on site, the bridge won’t be coming down until December, but possibly as early as the beginning of fall. Who knows though.
