CP 6040 West is stopped near mile 164 of the Belleville Sub., having struck a man on the track about 1/2 mile east of this point. They were here for 1 hour and 20 minutes and although I do not recall, the crew was likely changed. The second unit is one of 11 former Norfolk Southern SD-40-2s bought from GATX in 1992. They were GATX 3244-3254 and were renumbered CP 5475-5483 in 1993.

  2. I would think it mandatory that the crew be relieved after an incident like this.

  3. Relieving the crew after a serious incident is a relatively new thing. I was involved in a few fatal incidents over the yrs & we just kept on working after Police etc were done with us. I can’t recall if the new policy was in effect as of 1992 or not. I was in a double fatal on the Pt. Burwell Sub in 1974 & one victim died right in front of us, yet we worked another 5 hrs after that.
