Juxtaposition If you saw this photo 6 years ago you'd probably go WTF. You may still go WTF, but for different reasons. Where's the GO logo? What's that new scheme on the coach? Is this a new commuter operation? Welcome to the new GO Transit! Only time will tell if the F59's get the 'new scheme' some day, for now this is the closest you can get to a juxtaposition of the new and old..
Since this photo was taken. a nice fence has gone up along King Rd. Kiss yet another photo spot good bye.

  1. They put the fence up to keep the public and a few crazy railfans from getting killed. Glad to see you are not one of them. Nice shot

  2. Truth is there is no doubt development is to occur on that parcel of land. Fencing will be a requirement. A berm if residential :)

  3. True.

  4. I say once the MP54′s come online, the F59PH’s are gone. Since they have some on order, this would be logical.

  5. Metrolinx wont order a large amount of MP54′s as eletrification is the next step.
LOL..railroads rarely do logical things. CN still operates GMD-1′s and GP9RM’s

  6. Electrification is a pipe dream. The Feds will more than likely not allow juice jacks into Union Station. Union Station is a Federally Protected Heritage Site. They would have to make major modifications to whatever has to be done to permit electrification (this was found out when the project was well over 90% complete) and if the feds say no, electrification you can kiss good bye. They cannot move or modify the original structure. This includes the train shed and anything in it. If they lower the floor, that creates a sag. Engineers will not like that. Neither will the passengers.

I just don’t see a case for electrification based on this fact alone for the USRC.

As for CN still running GP9RM’s and GMD1′s? No argument there.

CP Rail with the GP22ECO’s? Jury is still out on that one. Knowing the climate here, they could make the GP7′s and GP9′s run another 60 years. But good ole Hunter is in charge. Probably his idea to have them rebuilt into GP22ECO’s. I’m sure someone has told him not to touch #1684.

And now he’s wooing NS? I don’t see this merger happening. And he’s suing “unnamed Class 1 railroads”? That’s not going to work either. He wants to force his way in. NS already knows he’s batshit crazy and everyone else does now.

Oops, off topic. Need to get back on those meds. lol.

  7. Gonna have to disagree with you Driver8666. Eletrification is going to happen. Metrolinx is already planning the new locomotives and they have the plans of which corridor to do first. As for Union Station. The concourse and other parts of the building are indeed Heritage protected, but not the train shed. If you go take a look at what they have already changed with the new glass roof, its a far cry from the original. They do admit that there would have to be a way to get the juice for the pantographs, but hey its 2016.I bet ya the Feds won’t say no. I am not a fan of electrification, but there are many out there crying the blues saying the diesel exahust is bothering..(squeaky wheels)

The GP9′s and GMD-1′s are great to have around but not so great to operate, I am sure there is some life left in them and you can always rebuild those beauties forever. Unlike CP, CN has no plans to do so.
Hunter did indeed plans the GP22ECO’s and has stopped buying new road power. It seems they have a big surplus.
Hunter is an egomaniac amd is just thinking about money and his legacy. NS and CSX are smart to rebuff him. Only time will tell if he is successful. His contract is done in 2017. Whi knows?
