Caption: Old railroad stations many years ago were an extremely important part of the railroad scene. They were the hub of the community. Virtually every community with steel rails within its' limits had a station. Or at least a flagstop. This ONR building at Haileybury is nice. Clean, well-kept and appearing to be structurally sound. So why did it get pulled down in 1997? I haven't been able to find out. The station was constructed in 1923 to replace the earlier one that was destroyed in the Great Fire that swept thru the towns back in 1922. This fire of mysterious origin burned 2000 square miles and destroyed stations at North Cobalt, Thornloe, Heaslip, Charlton as well as Haileybury. The North has had its' share of grief.
