Caption: The desjardins canal area is seen in full, a tight mashup of three railways, a roadway and high level bridge (York Rd in the background) and a six lane highway, with an essentially disused Canal right through it. Great news for the transportation fan, something for everyone, and we're part of that company aren't we.
I call this shot style a Mooney: a shot from waay up high, as far and high as one can get without being a squirrel.. a nod to our friend who has inspired different angles (I recall the ACR Sinter plant shot as one such example, plus a number in the Sudbury area on top of hills!)
This is train 255-02, the first three engines have been going back and forth on 255/254 the last few days at least, I managed to see this trio on a chance encounter on New Years Eve heading east with the 6255 in the lead, and would have anticipated it yesterday on the return from Buffalo but 255-01 was abolished. We'll have to see if this power returns.. possibly tomorrow on 254!

Nice shot! Shot this at the Killean mile board!
Nice shot! Shot this as it lifted the last 3 units off track 8 in Welland Yard.
Thanks Lorne for your observations, wasn’t sure where the extra three units came from.
Nice shot Steve….taken from the spot they dug out the cliff? that spot had become so overgrown years ago…it was a write-off…plus there were other “activities” in there – one ventured in at their own risk : )
yes. the pile (mound) of earth is growing ever taller too, twice the height it was in summer. once all this triple tracking is complete will be some neat vantage points opened up for a decade or two.
snake, like this danko view 1977: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=12998
I shot some magazine work off there as late as 79…but those red “things” you had to trample down to clear your shot.
Steve – I don’t think you can completely call it a “mooney-style” shot…missing in your pic is a early 70′s, high mileage type automobile for it to be a “true-mooney” classic…
hehehehehe
This set was broken up, it’s now 6262 and an ex Olympic unit…
Having seen this train a couple of times myself on its journey this day (Welland & Puslinch); I must say in this shot the view of the neighbourhood interested me more than the train did. )
Geeeez Arnold..you were out and about for this….now if only you had been with Steve for this pic….or should I say “in the pic”….candidate for RP.ca pic of year : )
