Saturday March 8 2008...the beginning of March break...except the masses were having trouble exiting at the airport due to a snowstorm covering the region.....Although CP 255 has no trouble making its way out onto the CN with SOO 6053 and two leasers trailing. No one else was on the walkway this day : )

  1. Why and where did CP 255 go on the Oakville Sub? I never knew this happened.

  2. Alex.. search the site. “Canadian Pacific” and “oakville sub”. These rights ended in 2010.

  3. Alex – the Toronto Hamilton and Buffalo Railway had rights to Union Station in Toronto and ran freights to/from the CP Canpa sub instead of up the hill to Campbellville – normally only two trains took the hill per day on average. These rights were also ‘joint section’ allowing TH&B (then CP) the right to switch customers along the Oakville sub – in contrast SOR’s rights on the Dundas sub between Paris and Hamilton are running only – no customer access. On the Oakville, CP locals could have been found on the line until about 2003-2004 when CP cut their jobs way back. The job would come from Toronto but generally ran in darkness.

I had the pleasure to see quite a few CP freights on the Oakville sub in the early to mid 2000′s, as they ran at least two per day, sometimes four. A photo – I have about four to six on camera over the years. Not too many but I am happy with what I have ;)

Head to the U of G library and check out the book “In the Shadow of Giants – The Story of the Toronto Hamilton and Buffalo Railway”. :) It’s worth your time. There’s a lot of good books in the annex – I’ve raided it a few times for winter reading material and plan to go in November.

  4. Thanks Steve!
