Those hoppers more than likely came from the mill in Payne’s Mill, the now western end of the Payne’s Mill Sub.
There was no limit to what you seen as power on the NS trains…the good days.
Isn’t that section of the Payne sub now ripped out?
Hi Steve,
The Payne’s Mill Sub ends at John Wise Line now, instead of Glencoe. It’s in rough shape, what with the demolition of the Ford plant coming soon, but it’s still there. I don’t think that CN is at all interested in the few cars a year the Cargill plant needs, but who knows?
I think the Payne sub is legally abandoned west of the bridge in St Thomas basically (to the mill at around mile 4), may still be in place, but the elevator has no right to service and hasn’t probably had any in a year – did you notice any cars in there?
To be honest, I don’t know. I was relying on Google Maps to see where the tracks ended, but the copyright on those maps was 2013. They show the transfer yard for Talbotville full of empty gondolas, but a lot can change in two years. I also can’t remember when the Paynes Sub was ripped up. I know it was recently (obviously prior 2013).
Either way, I’m kicking myself for not foaming the 327/328 trains sooner, as I was just arriving on the scene as they were being cancelled out. My interests at the time were being involved in forum operations for a Canadian modeller for MSTS. A glorious opportunity missed and lost to time in exchange for hours planted in front of a desktop…
