Caption: Believe it or not, this is the steel train for June 28, 1986. We traveled to Hamilton expecting to shoot the street running on Ferguson Ave, but instead they backed out of the yard and went up thru Dundas. Maybe because of the extra loads they had (trailers). If you look close you will find the mid train caboose typical of the operation for running around the train. We were disappointed to not get the normal street operation, but even in 1986, where do you shoot an A-B-A lashup (too bad we got the geep).

This is certainly not like any Steel Train I had ever seen. But the power is. So I assume this train is backing out to Bayview and then heading West on the Dundas? Never saw this move other than on morning train #401. Remarkable scene, and great shot.
Terrific shot! I’m really enjoying the images you have posted, Dave!
So would all of the head end traffic have been set off in Brantford? Or did it all go down the Hagersville also?
Joseph, I assume that the head end traffic would have been set off but we did not follow the train that day. At the very rear end of the train, there is the typical string of gondolas that would normally be on the steel train. Neither of us that were there that day can remember any other details, other than being disappointed with no street running.
Oh my… I think I can time machine this. This has changed so much… and is in the midst of further change.
Awesome shot Dave. I would have loved to see the steel train.
I’ve definitely done this shot a few times since 2015 – I should see if I have anything that works.
It would be nice to see changes Stephen. It’s been a long time since I’ve been there.
