VIA #903 (GE P42DC circa 2001) leads VIA #61 with a mix of LRC(circa 1981-1983) and stainless steel conventional (circa 1948-1955) equipment near CN Kingston Sub mile 318 (west of CN Rouge Hill (formerly CN Port Union)). The VIA 61 passengers have an icy vista of the stoney Lake Ontario shoreline transformed into icy cliffs due storm wave action throughout the cold 2015 winter months. The cold weather leaves the north shore of Lake Ontario as one of the few remaining stretches of Great Lakes open waters ( Ontario is 82% ice covered (record is 85% in 1979) and Lakes Huron, Superior and Erie are 95% to 98% ice covered). The Seaway has already delayed re-opening, late March 2015 at the earliest so expect the rails to remain busy for a while yet.Feb 28 2015 image by S.Danko
