Caption: In 2003, several CN trains detoured over the GEXR Guelph Sub due to a derailment on the Dundas Sub. Five years later, it happened again. Maybe, there were times in between. But this time, I had my camera ready to catch some of the action. The date was Monday, February 18, 2008 and it was the first Family Day Monday (the first year the new holiday in Ontario and Alberta came into effect). Here we see CN 396 coasting through Kitchener at about 20-30 km/h with a good train. The power was CN 5652 and IC 1024. There was another train after this one with CN/IC-BNSF power. It's cool to see these massive trains going through Kitchener.

Great one Kevin! I remember my dad telling me about the derailment actually on Family Day morning even though I was 7 going on 8 at the time. Well looks like soon will see the big heavy CN power rolling through Kitchener daily and GEXR will become ‘a thing of the past’. I’ll miss the colored units. But I’m glad I got all summer to get my shots. Thanks for sharing! I love those sd75Is actually.
