What's interesting:
The equipment pictured in this Kodachrome – at the time this positive was exposed ( 1983 ) – was 28 to 29 years old, mostly built by GMD / Budd / CCF (Canadian Car & Foundry - Montreal) circa 1954 – 1955. Do consider, when you view this, the LRC equipment built by Bombardier circa 1981 – 1984 ( Via 3300 and 3400 series coaches, many since re-furbished ) that comprise the bulk of the Via inter-city equipment right now and for the foreseeable future are today OLDER than ALL the equipment pictured here !

Fabulous.
That striped foundry building is somewhat of a landmark along that stretch of the Kingston Sub… at least it was for me. How many times did I pass that as a kid on the GO Train.
Mr. Danko – please give us a cursory explanation of how this is three trains? Creative numbering? I can certainly see two trains…. but three? Thank you sir. Much appreciated.
every morning from Toronto Union at 0900 hours – train #44 coaches to Ottawa; – train #54 coaches & baggage to Montreal; – train #2 coach & sleeping cars from Vancouver to Montreal via Toronto Union – please refer Via’s National 1982 & 1983 Timetables
can you please tell me if the 2 cars between park and skyline are coaches? if you do know/

Don: from the tail end, the Park, the Chateau sleeping car, the 100 series coach, the Skyline (vestibule forward) and perhaps the baggage car likely all originated Vancouver. During the off season ( when this Kodachrome was exposed ) – when ridership was low – the Skyline provided the full meal / beverage service (and of course the Park Lounge provided beverage service), the Skyline’s remained ‘CPR’ configured until the full re-build’s during the early 1990′s (when Via re-configured the Skylines and commenced operating the Skylines vestibule rearward); the only 1980′s interim Skyline car change was Via removed the 26 deluxe coach seats and replaced with either lounge seats (facing inwards), then later on with dining room tables and chairs. Operationally several sleepers, the Day-niter, coaches, full dining room car (if assigned) were removed at Union when the Ottawa / Montreal coaches added. During the ‘on’ season the Canadian section of this train could include up to 3 sleeping cars and 2 coaches in addition to the Park and Skyline cars. See also – with 2 sleeping cars:
