It is shortly before 10:45 A.M. on a cool, grey day Sunday May 1st.1960. A day that would go down in history. Billed as "An Old Fashioned Springtime Excursion" it would later become known far and wide as the"Tripleheader".  The steam era was drawing to a close and railfan clubs were operating excursions, usually with one locomotive and sometimes with two, but never before were three locomotives used! They were required to haul the heavy train up the steep grade between Forks of Credit and Cataract on the way to Orangeville. A record 14 cars and a record passenger count of 1,057 paying passengers. This matched the engine number 1057! Pass holders and small children along with railway personnel brought the total to over 1100. Hundred more were turned away! The engines could haul no more cars so the ticket sales were cut off two weeks in advance also something unheard of.
