On the first day of the new low-floor Flexity streetcars in service on the TTC system, 4400 rests its bendy 5 sections at Queens Quay/Spadina Loop. I tell ya, the turnout for the only two new Flexity's in service was incredible, and passengers were so happy they gave a round of applause at Spadina Station. I almost made the first one, 4403, however I wanted to enjoy my first ride, not be a sardine. It was worth the wait, and I got a seat on 4400 to Queens Quay. Here it dwarfs a highly underappreciated CLRV behind it. One of these days, the Flexity's will just be another TTC vehicle to passengers, much like the CLRV. However, one thing I'm sure that will be appreciated is with the amount of these high capacity sets ordered, they should greatly increase overall capacity on the streetcar network. The only issue that's bothered me is the destination signs appeared to be displaying improperly on both sets that were out on Spadina, and appears to be an issue on the other two that weren't in service today. Other than that, I'll be glad to see these make their way into the system. The TTC sure picked an eventful day for the new streetcars to roll out. Just minutes after 4400 left northbound, the "ship horn" from the Rogers Centre went off with fans letting out a good roar, easily heard from Queens Quay. Meanwhile, the air show was occurring, and of course the chaotic CNE.

  1. What kind of camera/lens is that ?

    Great shot, Daniel!

  2. Thanks! It’s just a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS as the lens, nothing special. The camera a Canon T5i.

  3. I agree that the CLRVs are underappreciated. It seems to me that, of all the vehicles built after the PCC, the CLRV are the ones that most closely resembled the PCC. Boston and Philadelphia, US cities that also chose not to eliminate all their legacy streetcar routes, also had to replace their PCC. And their first choice of replacement vehicles were unsatisfactory and had to be retired — while the CLRV were steady performers to the end of their design life.
