Caption: Who lived longer, the locomotive or the yard goat?CP 2839 was just an unwanted hulk in 1971, cast off after the Ontario Government changed its mind about a transportation oriented museum in Toronto. 2839 hung out in some of the best back alleys in Toronto, and then hunkered down in the John Street roundhouse. Eventually she was purchased by an enthusiast in the US, and went on to run some celebrated steam excursions for the Southern Railroad's steam program.Alas, while now looking much nicer, she is stuffed and mounted and unlikely to run again. Not so for her yard pusher, the CP 1057, which was enjoying her first day under steam as a preserved locomotive, and is still active with the South Simcoe Railroad in Tottenham.
