Two geep's and a handful of cars pass rolling farmland outside of Port Hope as they make their way east to the yard at Belleville, Ontario. I'm guessing that this is 571, as the yard / local power for Belleville is run to and from Mac Yard (outside of Toronto) on a 571 if they don't hitch a ride on 369 from, and 372 to, Belleville. Always a nice catch. CN 7081 and 7082. 1457hrs.

CN 516/517 (thanks TDS) ferry the yard / local power outposted to Belleville to and from Mac Yard (outside of Toronto) for service/inspection/replacement when they don't hitch a ride on 369 from, and 372 to, Belleville. Always a nice catch. CN 7081 and 7082. 1457hrs.

  1. Nice catch Mike. This was train L51631-02. L516 and L517 are the new symbols for the Belleville-Toronto extras. I never really understood why they called them L570/L571. L57131 was/is already a daily train operating on the ACR, so it was strange that they called this train L57132. Nice to see somebody figured that out.

  2. Thanks Tim, will have to get that updated.

They have never used 570 on this run so far as I’ve observed, running it as 571 in both directions. CN 570 is used on a Mac Yard – Oshawa turn which is usually, but not always assigned, throaty old geeps. 570 was fairly regular over the winter / spring, but now they seem to get 711 to make their lift at Oshawa, and 570 seems to run as required now.

  3. 570 is a regular job, but tends to do a bit of everything. It was supposed to be a Mac-Oshawa transfer job but the traffic isn’t consistent enough for them to make the turn daily. They also do BIT – Mac transfers as well. And being a road switcher (full crew), they are limited to a 50 mile radius of Mac Yard.

  4. Thanks cpcnguy. 570 is a favourite when it goes to Oshawa… usually GP38-2′s and GP9′s.
