Caption: The MoFo of Muskoka, with his recent submission (id=15791) of CN 2299,2298 on their very first revenue run (as seen at Rosseau Rd) got me to thinking I had been lucky enough over the years to occasionally catch some new power along the northward lines getting broken in. Always nice to capture an image featuring the brilliance of a new paint job. This offering is of new CP GP38-2 units fresh out of GMD, 3127 and 3126, along with leased units C&O 3719 and a gungy old black Conrail 7793. Northbound train is stopped momentarily at the MacTier station for a crew change. One can certain tell how times have changed when noting the automobiles riding behind the power, sitting ducks for the pranksters of days past. One has to wonder how many automobiles in transit were damaged by vandals back then. Obviously not everything in the world is changing for the better.

Nice one, Arnold. Brass bell, class lights, multimark – good stuff! As for dating the scene, the automobiles certainly accomplish that, but so does the 40′ newsprint box in the yard, block lettering and all, as well as the full height ladders on that burgundy boxcar it coupled to. By today’s standards, I bet the yard likely contained a few other treats from antiquity.
Thanks, Mike. The front end of the automobile looks to be of a 280Z or something of that sort. Classic car nowadays. The employee walking alongside the power is a Max somebody, forget his last name. He was new on this run, saw me with my old Speed Graphic, mistook it for a polaroid-type, and ask his photo be taken with the lead unit. I think he was disappointed it wasn’t to be an instant photo, but I did send the results to him by mail in a week or so.
