Caption: South Junction denotes the northward mileboard to the end of the CPR Waterloo subdivision, formerly known as the Grand River Railway. TG21 is southward bound to Hagey after lifting some cars at the GEXR/CN interchange a mile north of here as the sign denotes.

A bit of history for those interested - this section of the line was built new in 1960/61 (along with new Codeline) to re-route the Grand River Railway to meet the CN - and run joint section over CN Waterloo sub from South Jct to North Jct (approx location of todays huron park spur and Mill St) where GRR rails resumed to Waterloo. The rebuilding of the GRR made way for construction of Highway 8 in '63. This rebuilding/re-alignment also resulted in the end of electrification of the Grand River Railway and Lake Erie and Northern and the switch to Diesel was made in October '61.

For those interested in the lines rich history, pick up a copy of Steel Wheels along the Grand - sold through Credit Valley Railway. The Grand River Railway / Lake Erie and Northern have a rich history not too disimilar to the London and Port Stanley but was a CPR operation largely independent of the rest of the CPR well into the 90's. The last GRR employee retired only a few years ago.
