38 years old, orange bench seats, no air conditioning, outdated and being replaced fast, that pretty much summed up the TTC's H4 fleet in their final months. With new Toronto Rocket subway train deliveries moving T1's from the Yonge-University-Spadina to the Bloor-Danforth line, the 1974/75 H4's were on the chopping block first - the last of the original design Hawker Siddeley Canada trains dating from the H1 deliveries in the early 60's. Rather than nabbing the final train full of foamers, or rolling the dice trying to find one out late in the game, the photographer just elected to catch as many as he could in his lens months before they became scarce. Rush-hours were always good for finding a set or three out, but occasionally one would stay in service on a regular all-day run. This late afternoon finds just that, with 5655 leading an H4 set making the drop at Sherbourne Subway Station on the trip east to Kennedy, as an inbound train passes on the other track. Three months later it was curtains for good: the last one ran late January 2012 on a half-hearted "final run" trip.
