Caption: Due to bridge work on Bridge 6, the regular CN mainline bridge over the Welland Canal, trains approaching while a work block was in progress were rerouted via the Thorold Sub and bridge 10 to Port Robinson and onto the CN Stamford Sub., bypassing Niagara Falls altogether. I'm not aware as to how many trains did this route, but I noted four #328s between Nov 27/96 and Jan 22/97. I heard of no CNs going this way. And the detours were only sporadic, as after the first on Nov 27th, I noted Dec 4,5 and 6 (as well as many other #328s) going the regular route thru Niagara Falls. So the Thorold run would come under 'rare mileage'. Especially for anything other than CN. I understand maintenance and repair costs excessive, the bridge 10 shown here was dismantled by the Seaway Authority not long after this photo was taken. Power is CP 5418, NS 4014 (B23-7) and CP 5600.

It truly amazes me how much trackage there once was in the Niagara Region, especially crossing the Welland Canal. Another excellent shot Mr. Mooney.
No kidding.. and the fact Mainline trains ran on much of this track occasionally..
That was a pretty bleak looking day Arnold. Nice picture.
Great shot Mr. Mooney. Had always thought that line was abandoned back in that time, reason as to why the bridge came down. Never saw one train in that area all the times of riding the trails in the area.
