GTW 6301 (a 4-8-4 Northern) passes CN's Clarkson Station in 1957, with an old wooden caboose and boxcar parked on the tracks behind. The station burned down not long after this photo was taken. The 6300's were GTW engines but 6300 to 6311 all came to Canada after the war, mainly running out of Mimico and they gradually had the CNR wafer put on their tenders. [Editor's Note: 6301 was a Grand Trunk Western (who was owned by CN) 4-8-4 "Northern" U3a class steamer (sources indicate CN called them "Confederations" instead of Northerns) built by ALCO in 1927 as build number 67340, part of 12-unit order 6300-6311.]

  1. Another excellent picture of the Oakville Sub in the glory days of railways.

  2. Very nice Bill. Being a native of Clarkson, this is the very spot I started railfanning. Long after the station was gone. Did they build another station after this one burned down? My CN car control manual from the 80′s showed there was still one a this location, as well as the GO station to the West. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Great shot! Not very shots out their of my home town station. Sad that it didn’t survive.

  4. Brad, I think it was replaced with a small square shack of a building in this location for passenger trains.
