Shown as Mattawa, ON., we are actually on the other side of the Ottawa River (Rivere des Outaquais)in an unpopulated area of Quebec. Power on this northbound Mattawa-Temiscaming Excursion train (Timber Train) is OVR 1703 & the Timber Train's 3582. This service never caught on, and ran only 3 years. The 3582 ended up on STER, and that too folded.

  1. Some of these cars are in use on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad operating out of Lake Placid….. Not even repainted!

  2. Love the view!

  3. Arnold, shots like this brought to mind an idea for a big coffee-table book loaded with photos, entitled “Scene in Canada.” There are lots of folks in this country who have seen little of Canada beyond the area where they live. Such a book would represent an introduction to Canada. It would – hopefully – appeal to that target audience, and folks who love trains, and anyone with an eye for aesthetics.

  4. It is a shame, Joe, and I think that the more our governments insist on raising taxes to cover their waste, the fewer Canadians are going to travel their country. So much of this country is stunning; but, alas, the trains are disappearing. Quickly.

  5. Wonder if Via, CN and the unions associated with rail travel would get behind a plan to promote Canada AND train travel throughout the country?
