Caption: If I had a dollar… After getting my shots of the Huron Central's ballast train, I booted it back out to 17 to catch the 912 underway. I was unsure of their progress at this point, but eventually met them along the highway not too far before this shot, then spun around and raced past the slow freight into position. Here is the 912 passing the iconic Loonie monument, erected to commemorate the coin's entrance into our Canadian currency system (in 1987). I don't think I've ever seen a train shot yet that involved it, so I felt I needed to get a good capture of it going past! The car was a bit of a pain to have cut off, but you can only zoom so wide, while avoiding poles and keeping both the monument and the train in frame! Lesson learned about parking in your shots for sure.

As far as the car goes, well, (bleep) happens, and it was best you leave it in as part of the scene. I’ve never seen an image with that dollar in it either; but the regularity of this train with its same old, same old, power has gotten me in the frame of mind that anything I see ‘G&W orange’..☻…I’ve developed a habit of disliking. I worry so about the colour future of the GEXR……
Nice creative incorporation of the coin there Warren. 1987 was the first year of the loonie design dollar, previously they were of the “silver dollar” design. But, it probably said that on the sign…
Thanks both of you, I did know that bit of trivia, what I didn’t know that I researched (after posting this of course) was that the reason this monument is here is because the designer of the coin lives in town! Learn something new every day.
