I’ve shot here before (1997 I think) and it was getting pretty bad then, but both CN and CP were wide open a decade earlier. So many great locations lost pesky tree’s (or hydro poles)… lesson here to all, keep those weeds trimmed! And the old Troll bridge still in place…
The weekend visits of the GO power was an extra perk back then that is sorely missed. Looking at the train, I wonder if the second car out (red boxcar) was one of those assigned to the GM north plant, meaning a trip up the old Oshawa Railway and a little street running on Bruce and Ritson Streets.
Wonderful shot, John!
They used to run them only to Smiths Falls or Montreal and as far wast as wherever and north to Sudbury, then be returned to Toronto as quickly as possible. On holidays you’ll get an extra day out of them, but come Monday or Tuesday morning, into the shops they would go for traction motor changeouts. Sometimes the power would arrive late and the first train of the day would be late.
These would come from sets of 3 from GO’s shops, or picked from idle trains in Milton.
