Westbound at Leaside Junction circa 1980


   ….' double tailed ' end of train devices...with CP Rail van 434337 holding the markers


   The original Leaside Junction consisted of one crossover to accommodate north track access to the Don Branch to/from the east.


   The Don Branch, to the left, commenced just beyond the second signal gantry, the south side storage tracks just west of the Don Branch switch.


   Beside the active dispatcher phone box, at the base of each of the gantry supports is the  'return-to-train'  push buttons to allow crews to have a 'restricting' signal for the respective route ( to accommodate 'the push' engine(s) ).

   Interesting:  In the extreme foreground is part of the VIA era passenger kiosk platform. The west end of the steam era centre platform, between the south and north man tracks, extended almost a half mile well to the east of the existing former Leaside station building, commenced immediately to the right of the camera location. The centre platform was removed in the early 1980's at the time the welded rail installed.
