This rather huge train has just made its way thru Niagara Falls tourist area, tying up the traffic and p***ing off the Clifton Hill regulars as it slowly moved along toward Montrose Yard. This train was exceptionally long; I wish I had the car count, but just the power up front was impressive......CP 5691, HATX 404, CP 5639, 8228, 1807, 5519 and 1859. The train is seen approaching the South Siding Switch (Chippawa Spur. The line to the Spur from Brookfield is still in place and active these days, but all track north and east of this location has been removed.

  1. I’m looking at the Chippawa spur and I don’t see any industries. What is it used for if it is still active?

  2. Brad: The question will result in a ‘better weather’ drive for me, I guess. I don’t know which industries require rail service down there but I know CP’s Job 1 out of Welland still goes down the old Montrose line to Chippawa on occasion.

  3. Little did anyone know at the time, but 1859 resides full time here in Niagara now. I’d also like to shoot a local here for a time machine shot…does anyone know if they run on a sced. or is it “when needed?”

  4. The local Powers-That-Be were certainly glad to see CP abandon their tracks through Niagara Falls. A fine autumn scene from 20ish years ago.
