This is my first photo of the "Canadian" running trough Edmonton. With the demise of the "Super Continental", VIA had lots of surplus equipment, therefore there were no more mixes of old and new power on the transcontinental trains, and stainless steel cars dominated the scene.
The unfortunate souls on this particular train were forced on to a bus because of a track closure west of Edmonton. The westbound train terminated in Edmonton, and this became train #2. It has backed up the spur from downtown Edmonton and is continuing to back down the Wainwright Sub to Bretville Junction. It will use the wye at that junction to reverse direction and return to Toronto.
It looks like the double tracking at Bailey is not complete at this time. The tracks don't look to be fully installed and the signals for the end of the double track are still turned to the side.
