The land of four axle power. My earliest memories of Railfaning Stratford go back to the late 1990’s when CN still ran 432 between London and Toronto, back then any available four or six axle power was good enough to run the through freights. When CN took back the Guelph subdivision a few years ago everything changed, and any trains running west of Kitchener typically only get four axle power. Thankfully the GEXR still operates over its original line between Stratford and Goderich, and all with GP38’s. Here CN train 568 from Kitchener has finally made it to Stratford after clearing a work block west of Kitchener. Power is a pair of well worked GP40’s. The train is busy working the yard while the landmark Mater feeds elevator looms in the distance. This day the two GEXR units have called it a day and are waiting for the next call to duty.
