The Hudson Bay Railway has been the lifeline for Churchill and points north since the last spike was driven in 1929. This train from Thompson with it's mixed cargo is an excellent example of the vital role this line plays in northern Manitoba.

  1. I remember – vaguely – reading about the debates in the House of Commons about the Hudson Bay Railway. Quite a few decades after Sir John A had had the foresight to have a rail line built across Canada – when there was a very small population – there were questions about the practicality of building a line from Winnipeg to Churchill.
