Caption: Once an interesting train, CN #448 ran daily from Niagara Falls to Toronto, returning as #449. It worked local traffic along the way. This became part of history due to operational changes when the Southern Ontario Rwy took over operation of Hamilton's CN Stuart St. yard near the end of 1997. In this image, captured in the heart of the old Niagara Falls yard, we see #448 awaiting departure. Behind SD40-2 5365 and SD40-2(W) 5314 we have three of the only eight "Sweeps" (SW & GP) on the roster, the CN 7101, 7103 and 7102 product of remanufactured SW1200RS with some internal components from GP9s, and, most noticeably, the hood. The series 7100-7107, entering the roster in the 1985-1987 period, was sold in its' entirety to CANAC in 2000. The SDs were retired in 2007 and the yard ripped up beginning around that time as well. Nice train on a dull day.

I don’t know what to think, M. Berry…….I would think it would be odd of them to “assemble” at NF., yet I do not recall any Sweeps working that yard. Previously I had seen 7102 assigned to North Bay, and, perhaps one was hidden in Hamilton Yard and I didn’t see it……just a lucky sighting, I guess.
Mr Mooney, I have found photos dating back to ’98 of Sweeps in the yard.

I’m pretty sure those would be used on Road Switcher 549 which worked St Catharines and Merritton. It was moved to Niagara Falls yard after the Merritton Station burned down the year prior to this picture.
