Caption: Moose Jaw back in the early 2000’s was a very interesting terminal on CP. The engine house was very busy and there was a lot of variety in the yard. Everything from run of the mill GE’s and SD40’s to SD90’s and GP 9’s. I always took a liking to the group of bulky former QNS&L SD40’s with their oversized fuel tanks. Unfortunately this is the only one I ever got a shot of before they were retired. Interestingly several would end up on the DME and later return to CP after the DME was absorbed. Unfortunately by then the oversized fuel tanks had been replaced. In this consist 5413 is joined by SOO SD40-2 6610. Another interesting group of units, many later in their careers had dynamic brakes installed. Some all
So we’re retuned by CP to their leasing company only to be once again snapped up by CP. By that time they still wore SOO colours, but CP reporting marks. Years later some were sold off while others were placed into hump service across the system. The last unit, SOO 6050, today wears CP paint and a new number 6250.
