Caption: I'm not sure what the whole story here is, but some incident, closure or track work on CN's Grimsby Sub in Hamilton forced Amtrak to detour its Maple Leaf through the industrial districts in Hamilton over the old N&NW spur. Evidently Reg was in pursuit, but it seems may have gotten foiled by none other than a TH&B local switching job (their SW unit is barely visible behind the CP boxcar) working the nearby TH&B Adams Yard.
Nevertheless, here we have Amtrak F40PH 346 on #96 passing by Ottawa Street North crossing, partially blocked by a cut of TH&B gondolas, and with a red Dofasco van waiting at the crossing. Reg's vantage point appears to be standing on a nearby freight car spotted on the industrial tracks on the right. The green buildings in the background appear to be some of Dofasco's sprawling industrial operations (not the most pleasant scenery for passengers onboard).

This was the detour for the derailment at Ottawa Street I believe. Great image.
Trust Reg to be out for this.
This is great for so many reasons. I wish it still looked like that!
I enjoy how new the Dofasco facilities look being less than 20 years old at that point. And the CN? (TH&B?) Lunch room at left.
