I posted a similar photo to this one some 7 years ago. This image shows more of the surrounding area. I am on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River looking toward the town of Mattawa. An excursion run, called "The Timber Train" operated out of Mattawa ONT to Temiscaming, QUE briefly over the 1999-2001 years before it shut down. The area was just too remote to reach the number of tourists needed to make this all profitable. Engines on the train are RLK 1703 (GP9E) and 3582 BBD HR412(W). It was sold to Trillium in 2003 after the Excursion Co folded.
The 1703 was scrapped in 2008 and the 3582 is still listed as being on the GIO(Trillium)Holdings roster although I haven't seen it in a long time.

  1. Beautifully-crafted scenic image.

  2. Well, thank you, Sir !

  3. Very nice. I rode one of these cars on the now ripped up portion of the Adirondack Scenic between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. It’s quite possible I rode them in commuter service in Montreal before that as well!

  4. I like the height you got for this. Very nice photo.

  5. It was a nice trip.
One of the principals was the Late Jim Brown!

  6. What a nice bridge and location. Be nice to get a freight here!
