I had just recently gotten surgery on my left arm, and less than a week later, I unfortunately had a reason to drive. I had been tracking this consist for two days pleading it would come during daylight. I lost track, and found out it left MacTier at 1353. So with one arm, I drove from St. Catharines to Ypres, hoping to catch at wrap around the corner there. I noticed autoracks down the track in the siding at Baxter, and it was quite clear to me it was that extra 420. The rush was unnecessary though, as CP 119 had to go through, 421 needed to finish up at Spence, and the Honda Job needed to do work there as well. After almost two and a half hours, 9-420-03 finally got under way. Merging back onto the single main, UP 3655 leads 72 multis past the Cargill elevator at Baxter's south siding switch. Next stop is Spence, where it will drop its entire train, and head light to Toronto yard. I did not appreciate the overcast lighting, but I had to take what I got. Thankfully the scene is fitting, and is almost deceptive as if this was taken in Iowa or Nebraska. It wasn't. After seeing FPON's lead trains numerous times, this would be the first time I actually got a reasonable shot of this sort of event.

  1. Nice shot Daniel. I like the setting, the lighting, and of course the train, with a UP SD90 solo on the point to boot. You’re right, the shot does look like it could be somewhere in the US midwest.
