This is one of VIA's experiments to reduce transcontinental train costs, no twice daily Sudbury (on CP Rail) switching for the separate daily Toronto and Montreal sections: 82 83 84 the Ottawa valley trains were tri weekly Budd cars on CP Rail, Sudbury to Ottawa. By June 1, 1985 the twice daily Sudbury switching resumed on the Toronto section trains #9 and #10 and Montreal's #1 & #2.
