  1. Great shot!

  2. I wish i could curse because my hatred for these ET44ACs is really high! Nice shot

  3. Nice shot Gardiner !

  4. Get used to it SD… the CN cowls days are sadly numbered

  5. Makes the LRC cars look rather small.

  6. Eh I am used to the absence of CN Cowls, but I wanna see some GOOD engines like SD75is! not this trash!

  7. Lots of SD70/75I’s around still, but its harder to catch one in the lead as the crews prefer to have newer power on the point and in these very hot summer days the company tries to put power with air conditioning on the lead

  8. how come there are NEVER TD ES44DCs on the lead? those are neat units! I wish the new GEVOs were not as ugly as they are. And the SD75is are not too common around here anymore though, that or I just miss most of them

  9. @SD..you are wrong about them not being in the lead. I had CN 2230 in the lead last night. The AC was great!
You can wish all you like the ET’s are here to stay. It sounds like you just miss the SD70/75I’s there are many around and in the lead

  10. Yeah was gonna say…I saw 435 one day last week with a 23** leading.

  11. I always show up for work in the summer hoping for a GE in the lead. Sorry guys. I think I speak for ngineered4u as well when I say we deserve it! :)

  12. SD, think about the crews. Anything standard cab is pretty much hell, and anything like a cowl is almost worse. Now, would you rather drive an old 1995 Honda Civic which needs lots of work, no AC, and just a mess? Or a brand new Ferrari? You’re choice. Just letting you know, it’s the same way with locomotives

  13. The thing about me is that I pretty much hate anything considered “modern sleek”! I would have fun putting anything in that category in the scrapper, I may be a younger railfan but I love anything retro and vintage, so I would choose neither the ferrari or the honda because one does not work and one is “sleek”

And I forgot to mention how much I (caps coming) HAAATE e-bells!!!

  14. So if i was a billionare and a dealer would give me a choice of a restored 50′s vintage car or a modern sleek ferrari I would choose the 50′s car immediately

  15. I suggest you start railfanning shortlines if you want first generation power..

Or just shoot CN 394 this morning with IC 1003 leading and L524 with GTW 5844 IC 1011 and CN 7058

  16. LOL@ cpcnguy…I am not a big GE fan at all. I am just happy to have the AC in the summer, but preferably on anything other than a GE. I know you guys at CP had air contitioning way before we did on our units. Lucky buggers :-)

  17. @ngineered4u I’m a CN guy too, not cp (the name existed before my cn days) and I was referring to the air conditioning which makes life so much better at work LOL…Although I like having the GE’s that have trip optimizer, not that I ever use “auto-control”. But honestly as long as it isn’t extremely hot out, I could care less what kind of unit we get. Some are a lot noisier then others (the 2400 cowl units come to mind, 8000′s and early 8800′s as well) but you take what you can get! You can’t beat the sound of the old sd40′s or gp40′s though!

  18. @Joseph bishop Class III are not really my thing, Class Is are though, and how did a GTW get on the point? I would of LOVED to see that despite it not being a GP9R or SD40 :/ and IC LEADING? I thought they were not allowed to lead in Canada!

Despite the “GEVO parade” CN can still throw on quite the show, you can still spot BCOL units, SD75is roaring, IC units and even SD40-2/3s at times, make sure you know what trains have the potential to have these units and stay out for them!

  19. @CNSD60F IC units can lead in Canada as can GT units, as long as they have the proper safety devices ie..reset safety controls

  20. Class 1′s might be your thing but pretty much every class 1 has just as many if not more GEVO’S than CN does.

The GTW was added at aldershot and had everything it needed to lead so it lead.

Though you’re pretty hard pressed to find a SD40 of any description on a CN mainline freight these days.

  21. @ngineered4u I always thought it was required for locomotives to have microwave ovens and fridges to lead, engines without were permitted, apparently not :)
@Joseph bishop matters where you are, on the DMIR every taconite train is either pulled by a bunch of SD40 locos of any description or C40-8s. And out west all the transfers, locals and even some mainline freights are pulled by sd40s. But here on the halton it can get pretty rare, though I have managed to see CN 5379 on easter sunday (i know) on A435

  22. @CNSD60F..the IC units are equipped with all those things, so yes they can lead. That equiptment is not required on road switcher type units ie…GP9/38′s as those units rarely venture far from home in regular service.
Its still normal to see C40-8′s leading trains around :-) If you really want to see cowl units i have lots of pictures of them..lol mostly roster shots though.

  23. Sure but those are units that are captive on those lines…go to the BLE, they have IC SD70′s. You want standard cabs…go for a road trip. I also shot that 435, it was trailing…whoot!

  24. Joseph you saw it? Nice :D

And I have not seen a CN Cowl since early april, as for BC cowls that is different
