    I didn’t realize that VIA had such a large car fleet stationed in Toronto at that time.
    Things no longer seen there include the large DuMaurier sign atop the grain mills in the background. Tobacco advertising was banned in the mid ’80′s. It looks like a Turbo Train is resting on one of the tracks. This is a great photo Arnold. I wonder what the “Today” shot would show. Just a wall of Condos I’m sure.

    And I forgot to mention that Turbo in the background had just come in from its’ final revenue run. Ever.

    Yes, very stunning and impressive shot of what we once had. A busy VIA with standard hand me down steam-heat equipment. Lots of equipment for lots of trains. Lots of CN crews working the yard.

    The coach yard was a ball in those days. 5 and 6 yard jobs overlapping, dragging trains through the useless wash racks, and running power back and forth to the shop. Everything was charged with steam before it left as well. Those were the days of 20 car trains to Montreal and Windsor on weekends.

    I’m glad you mentioned the 20 car trains, Dave. I think some of the guys I talked to on this site thought I was overflowing with “geezer tales” when on this subject.

    I wonder if anyone ever took photographs of the stored assorted head-end cars to the right? I’m a bit of a “head-end car” fan.
