As a kid I only got to ride on the Algoma Central once, unfortunately I was too young to take any photos. I really liked the AC so in 2001 following the line on the way out west was a must. We managed to catch three Wisconsin Central trains this day and I'm happy I visited here before the CN takeover. This visit showed me a Hawk Junction that was just a shell of its former self, but still much better than it is today. Sadly the branch to the harbour was already gone by the time of my visit and the yard was fairly empty. We arrived the day after Canada Day and it was nice to see a Canadian flag still taped on the side of the trailing SD45, and catching an old GP35 on the head end was a nice treat as well. The crew were assembling their northbound train when we got there, but unfortunately did not stick around for its departure.

  1. You did really well with this image considering the sun angle on Northbounds is usually really dicey.
And you’re right…it is really barren around there now.
