Alway a nice local to chase, the Streetsville turn was typically a Monday to Friday job assigned to Guelph junction. It was a last chance for me, along with the “Ham turn” to photograph the surviving MLW’s in service, not to mention a CP van in the consist. I’m not sure if the wye in streetsville was still intact and usable by this date as sometimes the power would return long hood forward. This day the autumn colours were muted out by the overcast sky as the Streetsville job returns back to Guelph junction with three grain cars out of Reid’s or ADM in Streetsville in tow and a van, as they duck under the wooden farm bridge east of Campbellville.

  1. So, can folks enlighten me – in a few years I’d photograph the “stone train” that ran to Guelph Junction. What was it? Cause around 2004 it stopped running.

  2. From what I recall when OSR basically took over operations at Guelph this ended the Streetsville turn, relocating it to Toronto and technically it became the “stone train/Guelph junction turn” CP also ran the Streetsville job and “moonlight “ to Orangeville at that time. All out of Toronto. Typically all GP9U’s for the consist most of the time. Probably around the time you mentioned the stone train stopped running and most traffic destined for Guelph junction came off the London pick up. Not to be forgotten up till the OSR takeover there was a Guelph junction turn but it ran out of Toronto usually with a pair of SD40’s, they ran to Guelph junction, worked there then worked Streetsville yard on the way home.

  3. That guy on the bridge having a coffee?

  4. Great oldies Marcus. Had I been into trains I probably would have failed University. :)

ALso who is the photographer on the bridge?

  5. Thanks! Not totally sure but he might be the owner of the property.

  6. The “Sone Train” & “Cooksville Turn” were London Road jobs operated out of Lambton Yard. If I recall the latter was paid yard rates & conditions but was a London Road job. Years ago, any work west of Mile 15 Galt Sub (Cooksville) was London work. Changes to agreements after trains stopped using the CN “joint section” ended all of the old “prior rights” arrangements.

  7. oops.. “Stone Train”..should have kept glasses on..

  8. Ron so this was around 2010 when the Oakville sub Joint Section ended?

  9. I believe that it was several years before that.
