A typical mid-'80's view of the CP shops at Alyth - SD-40's and GP-38's. The four-axle set is likely the Exshaw Turn's power.
Note the "Canadian Pacific" sign on top of the building. I think that might have been a recent (at the time) addition (Or, maybe, I did not notice it there before - a very likely scenario).

  1. I’m guessing VIA power was services at the shops? Just noticed the VIA F-unit inside the shop.

  2. Yes, I forgot to mention that. Generally, they did not change out the power in Calgary. It was lightly serviced and fueled at the station only. The VIA unit is likely backup power, CP probably got tired of having to supply power (or was unable to spare any power) to a crippled “Canadian”, so the solution seemed to be to have an extra unit on hand.
When VIA operated the RDCs from Calgary to Edmonton (aka the Deathliner), these units were regularly serviced at Alyth.
