CN 3231 and CN 3316 are in the lead with CN 2122 and CN 2452 dead-in-tow as 397 passes one of the non-prescribed burns which occurred on the Halton Sub. yesterday. I presume the DIT units are heading state side for final disposition.

The SOR Garnet Yard day job with QGCY 2301 and RLK 4095 are trailing a block of coil cars for Stelco and a block of tanks for Imperial Oil has slowly made its way south from Garnet Yard and is stopped at Mile 0.00 Hagersville Sub. at Nanticoke the junction with the Stelco Spur and Hydro Spur. The crew is waiting the arrival of GEXR 2303 (Imperial Oil Job) which is behind the photographer running light northbound on the Hydro Spur. The crew has lined the switch for the Stelco Spur, after a job briefing between crews QCRY 2301 and RLK 4095 will head south with the block of coil cars on the Stelco Spur, having cut-off the block of tanks to be lifted by GEXR 2303.

GEXR 2303 (Texaco Job) is sitting south of the junction switch with the Stelco Spur. The Garnet Yard Job with QGRY 2301 and RLK 4095 trailing blocks of coil cars and tanks is stopped north of the junction switch, after a job briefing they will pull south onto the Stelco Spur, cut off the tail end block of tanks just north of the switch and then continue south to Stelco. GEXR 2303 will couple onto the tanks and after getting their air will head south on the Hydro Spur to switch Texaco.

A weathered looking CN 5609 exits out from under the Plains Road overpass with less that 1/2 a mile to the junction with the Oakville Sub. at Burlington West.

CN 7515 and CN 7509 lead L551 up the grade on the south track of the Halton Sub. between Tansley and Ash. The planned meet with 435 at Ash didn't quite go as planned as 435 was delayed for about an hour, most likely snagged by the detector at Mile 36.

CN 502 with CN 3013 and CN 3897 heading southward having just crossed Highway #6 at the hamlet of Garnet and less than a mile to the limits of the CN Hagersville Sub. at Three Fires Mile 5.7 the connection with Southern Ontario Railway (SOR). Prior to entering the SOR Limits the crew will contact the ARDC (American Railroad Dispatching Center) for permission and instruction on yarding their train. The telegraph pole in and amongst the trees on the Engineman's side on the far side of Hwy 6 is along side the original alignment of the Hagersville Sub.. To eliminate train operations via Jarvis and Cayuga Sub. to get to Nanticoke the current alignment built around 1976 provided a more direct route crossing the Cayuga Sub. at CN Garnet.

Heading south up the grade toward Kinnear Yard CP 2270 CP 3042 and CP 2242 are providing the power with six AIM hoppers and two tanks trailing approaching King St.. The Hamilton Belt Line is a narrow right of way and cuts through mostly residential back yards between Cannon St. and King St..

Veteran locomotive NSCX 12 pushes a hopper and NS coil car toward the shop tracks while one of the new kids on the block NSCX 8704 follows closely behind. Both of these locomotives were kept busy today. At shift change NSCX 8704, NSCX 12 and NCSX 5603 were spotted on separate tracks outside the shop behind the fence, unfortunately NSCX 12 was obscured by one of the other units.

Sharing some of the workload today NSCX 8704 with long hood leading pulls three new NS coil cars from the NSC Yard and across Kenilworth Ave., then a reverse move back into the yard. I noticed a significant number of NS coil cars stored on NSC Property and along Burlington St., I'm not sure they're going anywhere soon. NSCX 12 was running around making numerous moves also, NSCX 5306 was idling outside the shop maybe feeling a bit left out.

With the Remote Control Operator (RCO) riding the point, Remote Control Locomotives (RCL) CN 7502 and CN 4776 shove twelve loaded hoppers into Oakville Yard, after spotting the loads the crew will retrieve a cut of empties and return to Ash Grove Mississauga Cement Plant at the east end of the St. Lawrence Cement Lead. It will be a cold ride on the side ladder on the lead hopper for the 4 miles back to the cement plant.

Operating in a 2-1-0 configuration CN 3086 is in control with CN 3907 trailing as they do the pulling up front with CN 3204 doing its job about two-thirds of the way back. I was surprised to see new NS coil cars without lids go by as I thought these all went to the Niagara Area. It is a cold and crisp morning trackside but the sky is clear and the sun shining. Just prior to 385 arriving the Signal Maintainer put his hyrail on the south track and headed west toward Tansley.

A422 heading up the grade at Mile 37.7 Halton Sub. between Ash and Milbase through what was once wide open fields with a long consist. CN 3204 CN 3832 CN 3303 are doing the pulling with CN 8100, CN 8009, GT 8952, CN 4125, CN 213, CN 7270, CN 4790 trailing. The last four units are probably heading for scheduled service at MacMillan Yard. There is some type of notice posted on the Conductors side window on the CN 8009 and the rear door on the Engineman's side of the GT 8952?
