CPKC B08-30 rolls through Warner, Alberta on the Montana Sub. The train operates daily from Lethbridge to Coutts, Alberta where they interchange with BNSF at Sweetgrass, Montana. Power today was CP 5007, CP 6231 and CP 5036 with 58 cars.

Built about 40 years apart, top of the line power from different eras, meet outside of the Walker Yard Diesel Shop in 2024. CN 6514 and CN 6614 were built in January, 1957 and CN 2553 was built in the fall of 1997. The F Units spent their career on CN, VIA and the Algoma Central Railway before being acquired by the Alberta Railway Museum. CN 2553, has so far avoided the rebuild program and is running out its days hauling tonnage across the CN network. Believe it or not, it won’t be long before the Dash 9s are a thing of the past and, like the FP9s, are something we go out of our way to see and reminisce about at the local Railway museum.

CN 6514 and CN 6614, sit outside of the Walker Yard LRC on a smoky July afternoon. These locomotives came from the Alberta Railway Museum located just north east of Edmonton.

CN G 81141 17 wastes no time getting up to trackspeed, as they get underway on the Edson Sub. G 81141 17 was a massive 206 car combo grain train operating 1x2x1, which will be split at Boston Bar for different customers on the west coast.

One of the perks of spending time at the Victoria Street Bridge in Oshawa was the several train races or meets that would occur between the frequent GO traffic and mainline action on the Kingston Sub. June 4, 2016 was no exception, when we caught four meets within a several hour period. For a video of the meets, click the link in the comment section.

When the Mega Gangs hit the Wainwright Sub, several mainline trains a day will detour across the Prairie North Line between Edmonton and Saskatoon. Here we see Q 19251 16 on the Vegreville Sub, passing the Providence Grain Group elevator, at Gaudin, Alberta.

X 14451 17 climbs out of the Battle River Valley, at Ferlow Junction where the Stettler Sub, connected with the Camrose Sub. If you look closely at the bottom right frame, you can see part of the old right of way.

The Kidd Ranch excursion gets underway from Aspen Crossing with MLW 8704 and two cabooses. Aspen Crossing is a campground in Mossleigh, Alberta - about an hour south east of Calgary, where you can stay in one of three cabooses and they operate excursions on the former CPR Lomond Sub. Definitely a great spot to spend a few days!
