My name is Michael Berry and I grew up in Montreal West, a town with numerous rail lines passing through. I have always been interested in trains but have been photographing them on a regular basis since 2005. I currently use a Nikon D5300 with a NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR lens. <b>Next stop Lasalle.</b> AMT 87 has 4 refurbished 700 series cars as it crosses the Lachine Canal southbound over CP's Rockfield Bridge. <b>Sunset at Southwark.</b> The combined VIA Rail Ocean/Chaleur is passing through Southwark Yard at sunset, with downtown Montreal's skyline barely visible in the distance. At right is CN 309, stopped to set out some TankTrain cars. This is a very long consist, with three F40's, five ex-CP stainless steel cars (the Chaleur section of the train), about 17 Renaissance cars and an ex-CP Park car bringing up the rear. Out of service for over 3 years, and freshly refurbished and repainted, the 700 series AMT cars are starting to enter service on the AMT Candiac line. Here cab car AMT 704 is bringing up the rear of a train about to stop at Montreal West before heading downtown. The rest of the consist was AMT 735, AMT 725, AMT 729 & AMT 1345 (ex-GO Transit F59PH). The southbound Adirondack crosses over the Lachine Canal, with big dome car "Ocean View" in tow. The train is passing CN Wellington tower, no longer in use and in the background is Montreal's (ever changing) skyline, with new construction going on. <b>The old AMT.</b> An eastbound train consisting of AMT 1313 (an ex-CN GP9), a generator car and 6 ex-GO Transit single level cars (dubbed 'GO Karts' by local railfans) passes through Montreal West at sunset during 2009. The GP9's and generator cars would be out of service by the end of 2009 and have since left the roster. The single level cars were replaced by new Bombardier multilevel cars in the summer of 2010 and have also left the roster. AMT 734 is stopped on the CP bridge over highway 20 for an unknown reason (it may have been just released from nearby Canadian Allied Diesel). Not too long after this photo was taken, an eclectic lashup made up of CP 3024, CP 3120, CEFX 1033 & CP 8751 would couple up and push the car eastwards. These 700 series cars would be taken out of service in the summer of 2010 when AMT received a large order of Bombardier multilevel cars. CN 327 is a train which runs with a CN crew from Montreal to Huntingdon, Qc, where a CSX crews takes over and takes it across the border. Here it has two of CSX's newer engines. They have slightly different paint schemes, the trailing unit (CSX 3077) having the newer boxcar paint scheme, the lead unit, CSX 722, has the older version of the dark future paint scheme. SLQ 3569 was built as CN 2569 by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1976 and renumbered to CN 3569 in 1987. It was sold to the St. Lawrence & Atlantic where it kept the same number and they donated it to Exporail where it now resides. At the Canadian Railway Museum we see CP 9069 (Budd RDC-1) and AMT 1311 (GMD GP9, originally CN 4307). Both were used in Montreal commuter service. For more train photos, check out http://www.flickr.com/photos/mtlwestrailfan/

At the entrance to the Canadian Railway Museum can be found a rare steam engine wheel arrangement, a 2-4-0. It was built by Baldwin in 1900 as a 2-4-0T called <i>E.E. The Golden Chariot streetcar is heading to the Exporail's entrance to pick up passengers after the crew took a lunch break. Four of these fascinating streetcars were built for the Montreal Tramways company. Thankfully all have been preserved, including two at Exporail. One is on permanent display, while this one sees very occasional usage.

Combined VIA train's (J-Trains) are not a regular occurence in Montreal. Due to the VIA accident in Ottawa this morning, there were a number of them today. Here what may be VIA 65/VIA 659 heads west with VIA 6437 at the front and VIA 6448 tucked behind 3 LRC cars. Behind 6448 was another 2 LRC cars. Cab car AMT 2000, a Bombardier bilevel car, is westbound and about to stop at Montreal West Station during a very snowy afternoon rush hour. Pushing at the other other end is AMT 1330 (GMD F59PHI). VIA 6408, VIA 6404 & VIA 6425 back the combined Ocean/Chaleur in to Central Station. They are crossing the Lachine Canal over what was once a lift bridge. This line was also once electrified many decades ago.
