About Kevin Flood
I am from Kitchener, ON and have been photographing trains since 2000. I started with a Blacks point and shoot film camera then switched to digital in 2004/2005. I got my first DSLR in July 2007, and five years later, upgraded my camera to what I'm using currently - a Canon 60D.

![CP 254 comes into Hamilton with CP 6248-6236-5012 for power on the 1st day of another tumultuous month in 2020. This power set has been on CP 254/255 for September to date, so a shot was in order. Hard not to if the power stays on these trains for days on end. The ex-SOO SD60s were common on CP back in 2013-2015 but seemed to drift away for a period of time. They are still not overly common, unless on 254/255 these days! They still look good, especially when they are paired up elephant style!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/11942-200x150.jpg)

![CP 246 is southbound on the Hamilton Sub with a relatively light train and CP 7018-7058 for power. CP 7058 is an ex-UP unit and one of the newest of the ACUs on the CP roster, as evidence by it's bright red paint. Also of note is the first car - a relatively new green CP boxcar. I've never seen one before.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/IMG_6822-Copy-2-200x150.jpg)

![On Father's Day 2020, CP 246 departs Hamilton on its way to Welland with an interesting power set in the way of CMQ 9023-CP 6260. CMQ (ex-CP) SD40-2Fs led CP trains only a few times this summer in southern Ontario after they were acquired by CP; most of the times were on trains on the Hamilton Sub (143 on June 20, 246 on June 21 and 247 on June 22). The temperature was rising on this early summer day, and so was the interesting power on CP! Of all the shots I snapped as 246 crossed the Red Hill Valley Parkway, this one turned out the sharpest. Photograph was taken from Greenhill Ave.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/11526-200x150.jpg)

![After spending a good two hours at Wolverton, CP 234 finally was on the move towards Toronto, passing through Campbellville just shy of 09:30. The CP script heritage units are definitely my favourite, so I tried to make room for this train in my schedule being that the light was favourable. Power was CP 7011-8117-9615-8521.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/IMG_6810-200x150.jpg)

![As the summer winds down, looking back, there were some great trains in the area. CP 246 is pictured about to duck under Dundurn St. in Hamilton with Heritage unit CP 7016 and BNSF SD70ACe 8446. By this time, I almost had enough of the 7016 as it was floating around the area for quite some time. However, since it had the BNSF trailing, I thought it would be cool to capture a CP Heritage painted unit with an American railroad unit.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/115851-200x150.jpg)

![CP 246 descends the Hamilton Sub towards Hamilton with two GEs numbered 8524 and 8143, and a GP38 No. 3045 to be dropped for the Hamilton local job. I wanted to get some trains on my birthday, even though in a few days from this shot, the ACU rush would begin. CP 246 is a great train for its reliability, but lighting, not so great. Since it's typically an early afternoon train into Hamilton, high sun makes for challenging photography. So, I took advantage of the surrounding landscape to create a naturalistic scene.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/11440-200x150.jpg)

![Back in October 2007, GEXR ran an extra from the EMD plant in London carrying new units for the UK. There were a few of these extras in 2007 which I managed to shoot. Power was RLK 4096-LLPX 22xx (2210 or 2236). Although the runs on GEXR seemed to be documented well, I have not seen many shots of these export units on CN trains east of Toronto, since their destination was ultimately Halifax for shipment across the Atlantic, or at least I presumed.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/11745-2007-10-21-200x150.jpg)

![Wide-cab SD60M SOO 6060 leads a southbound freight, just entering the CP Hamilton Sub at Guelph Jct. Trailing units were a GP9 and two GEs. This may have been the only time I shot this type of SOO locomotive so this was hot. A chase down to Hamilton was in order so I managed to capture this run well. Funny though, I don't recall many other railfanners around! SOO locomotives were still circulating the CP system around this time so I guess it wasn't that difficult to catch one. Quite an interesting unit - it became CP 6260 if I recall correctly. If this unit did become 6260, then I shot it again recently trailing on 246 behind the CMQ unit on June 21!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/11727-200x150.jpg)

![While a lot of attention was focused on CP 247 (at right of photo) with CP 6644-7016, I stuck around and waited for 254 knowing it would be in nice light coming south into Hamilton (power was 8918-8650). The poor GE/GEVOs have been getting neglected ever since the ACUs infiltrated the CP system (and the infamous CMQ units). Once 254 cleared, CP 247 would be on the move northbound towards the Galt Sub and Toronto. 247 had a long string of brand new cars, including CP hoppers, from NSC. Lots of action on the Hamilton Sub during this hour!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/11700a-200x150.jpg)

![A CN eastbound (most likely 422) greets a photo lineup of railfanners on the lower tier of the Laking Garden bridge at the infamous Bayview Jct. during the annual Bayview meeting in June 2015. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic I don't think there was a Bayview meeting this year, but if it happens in 2021, it is a great opportunity to meet fellow railfanners in person, and shoot trains, even if they just have GEVOs on them :) Power on this train was CN 2600-CN 5620-CN 2402.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/10535_200906-200x150.jpg)

![CP 140 finally continues its final leg toward its destination of Toronto after being delayed the previous day due to a bridge issue at the Detroit/Windsor border. It was about 08:40 and it was quickly getting hot. I was finally able to properly shoot this pair, which had been circulating the system on trains 235 (June 26), 234 (June 27), and 141 (June 28). My attempt at shooting this pair on train 234 on Saturday, June 27 failed miserably as the train was extremely late and finally proceeded east from Wolverton in the late afternoon, forcing me to ultimately give up. I'm glad I did because I was able to shoot it like crazy this Canada Day morning. If only CP 234 following this train had CP 7023 leading, it would have been a perfect morning. My luck has its limits. This was taken at 9th Line at the Mississauga city limits. Highway 407 is in the background.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/11626-200x150.jpg)

![Jason Noe's recent shot of the CNNA geeps in Kitchener yard reminded me of a shot I took on the exact same date at Kitchener Yard. Pictured is CN 540 with 4713 on the point (7068 and 4784 trailing), and in the background at left are the two units Jason captured here: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=41999. I often stopped over at the yard on the way home from work to see what was going on, and if the traffic was bad on Lancaster Street, I knew some train was switching.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/10388-200x150.jpg)
